Dandruff is medically known as Seborrhoea. It is not just dryness of the skin. Actually, the word “Seborrhoea” means “too much oil.” Seborrhoea is also known as Seborrhoeic Dermatitis or common Dandruff. Skin has a natural mechanism that its cells flake off regularly. Skin contains glands called Sebaceous glands. Function of these glands is to keep our skin moist. The function of these glands is to release oily material or discharge, which is known as Sebum.

Dandruff is not a yeast infection. Simple Dandruff does not cause hair loss. Excessive flaking can also be a symptom of Seborrhoeic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Fungal infection or excoriation associated with infestation of head lice. Dandruff is a global phenomenon and many people find that Dandruff can cause social or self-esteem problems. treatment may be important purely for sychological reasons.

Dandruff Causes:
1. Skin oil commonly referred to as Sebum or sebaceous secretions;
2. The metabolic by-products of skin microorganisms (most specifically Malassezia yeasts);
3. An individual susceptibility.
4. Due to stress

The above four are major causes of dandruff on which one should take care.

You exercise, swim, dance to keep your body fit. But what about your rapidly greying hair?

Following are some useful tips to remember:

You may be over exposed to intense heat or bright sunlight.

You may be under emotional stress

Be very careful about applying gels or creams on your scalp, as they choke the pores.

Wear a cap while swimming to protect your hair from chlorinated water and wash your hair as soon as you step out of the pool.

Make sure you don’t sleep with tightly braided hair. This may weaken hair roots.

Get oil massages regularly or thrice a week to boost health of hair.

Avoid styling products that contains alcohol, as these dry up hair very rapidly.

Use good natural shampoo only once in three days.

Yoga to prevent greying of hair

Anulom-vilom pranayam

Form the pranayam mudra with your right hand. Close your right nostril with your right thumb and exhale slowly through the left nostril. Now breathe in deep and slow. When the breath has been filled inside, close the left nostril with your ring and little fingers and lift the thumb off the right nostril. Exhale slowly from the right nostril. Repeat this with the other nostril.

Bhastrika pranayam

Sit in sukhasana, back straight and eyes closed. Place your hands on your knees in gyan mudra. Exhale completely through both nostrils, then inhale through both with some force. Repeat continuously till you feel tired. Time taken to inhale should equal the time taken to exhale. When you breathe in, your lungs should expand, not your belly.

Bhramari pranayam

Sit in sukhasana, back and neck straight. Breathe normally. Close both ears with your thumbs. Close your eyes. Keep your index fingers on your forehead near the agya chakra and the remaining three fingers on your eyes. Inhale slowly and fill your lungs with air. Then, as you exhale slowly, hum like a bee. Focus your attention on this sound.

Here are some of the simple healthy hair tips at this season

The tow most visible part of a person are hair and skin. Hair loss can be devastating and shouldn’t be ignored. It can lead to body dysmorphic disorder, which leads to destruction of self image, prestige and confidence. And cold weather can wreak havoc on your hair. Trichologist says that cold winter air is more drying and less humid and therefore more abusive than other times of the year. “Indoor heating devices create a dryer climate and hair loses its healthy, shimmering look”.

Hair Care Tips:
Hair requires only a limited amount of washing, just enough to cleanse your hair of dirt. In winter you should be extra careful that natural hair oils are not depleted due to excessive washing.

Add moisture to your hair. Apply jaborandi hair milk for the last rinse.

Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair and needs special attention in winter to prevent frizziness and split ends. If you have curly hair, don’t rinse out all your conditioner t the ends to help keep hair healthy and prevent frizziness.

Hair static is caused by a lack of hair moisture. Brush with natural and not plastic bristles.

Never keep your hair wet for a long period of time or brush it when its wet – hair is at its weakest then.

Try to towel dry your hair instead of blow drying it.

Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind, but make sure that it isn’t so tight that it restricts blood circulation in your scalp.

Winter is also the time when split ends work their way up to the hair shafts. Trim split ends and style your hair with a braid, twist or a knot. Avoid keeping your hair untied and open, the wind can damage your tresses.

Avoid frequent colouring, streaking or ironing as these treatments rob the hair of its moisture. If you can’t do without using a blow dryer, don’t forget to use a leave-in conditioner before using it.

Dull And Listless Hair
Why : Lack of fat soluble vitamins in your body. In the craze for acquiring a model-like figure, the first thing to bear the brunt of crash dieting is our hair. When you diet and completely avoid the intake of fats, hair begins to lose its shine.

What to do : Include vitamin A,D,E and K in your diet. Make sure you smear that extra spoon of ghee. In terms of external care never skip conditioning your hair after every wash.

Thin And Scanty Hair
Why : Too much smoking, stress and long working hours makes your hair scanty. An unhealthy lifestyle blocks the blood flow to the hair roots, causing it to shed. Extream strain on the eye muscles also restricts blood flow to your hair. It’s also a direct result of poor diet.

What To Do: Include things like nuts, soya beans, paneer, mushroom, chicken and fish in your food plan. Avoid red meats; they make hair thiner. Regular exercise that lost at least 40 minutes is a must. Break it into 10 minutes of warm ups, 20 minutes of vigorous work out and 10 minutes of cooling down.

Dandruff
Why: Dundruff is a kin to sweating, but here its exfoliation of the skin that results in itching on the scalp. It’s common among the people who have oily skin or those who lead their scalp stay oily for days without a hair wash.

What To Do: Use anti dandruff shampoo regularly, it will prevent oil from accumulating oil on the scalp. Avoid foods like cakes, Chinese meals sufary sweets and colas as much as possible.

Dry And Frizzy Hair:
Why: People who are absessed with using fancy shampoos that have nothing but scented and formulated liquids are very likely to experience the dryness of hair. Lack on iron in the diet is also a reason.

What To Do: Use only unformulated and mild shampoos that have the words ‘for daily use’ specified. Condition your hair regularly so that the moisture remains intact. Improve the intake of iron by having lots of spinach, peas, lentils, prunes and raisins.

Fragile Hair and Split Ends
Why: Deficiency of calcium and minerals in the diet, irregular eating habits are vital reasons. Often, people go on a one nutrition diet like a no crab or an all protein diet. But the body cannot run on just one nutrient, or without one.

What To Do: A balanced meal makes hair strong and reduces fragility. For split ends regular trimming is the only way out. hair is more prone to split ends during this time of the year.

Graying Of Hair:
Why: These days children as young as 15 are developing silver hair strands. It indicates low level of melanin in the body. People with poor eating habits, factory workers who are exposed to pollution and extreme heat and even white collared employees sitting in their AC cabins are most likely to develop early gray hair.

What To Do: Protect hair by wearing a cap when exposed to heat, pollution and extreme temperature. Try not to sit exactly below the A/C blower.

Lice
Why: A common problem among school students, lice is an infection that spreads from one person to another, especially while playing or working together in close proximity.

What To Do: Use an anti-lice shampoo to clear them. Try to ensure others use it too.

Toss those tress and you’re giving away the state of your health. your hair is a surefire indicator of just how healthy you are. And chances are, if you’re facing a hai r problem, you also have a health problem.

Abnormal hair fall, or growth, or excessive dryness of your hair and scalp and dandruff that refuses to clear, then you need to get professional help. Your condition may be more than just a bad hair day! Here are simple rules to get that gorgeous crown:

Clean Hair:
Basic hair care starts with clean hair. Too much cleansing, however, can be damaging. The scalp produces an oily substance called sebum which coats each hair and keeps it looking shiny and soft. Shampoos are designed to remove excess oilm grease and dirt and to exfoliate the skin cells which clog and suffocate the hair follicles. It is important to choose a shampoo according to your hair type.

Daily shampooing is not a problem as long as the shampoo is formulated for daily use. If your hair limply feels sweaty it is okay to simply rinse out the sweat too. Shampooing does not cause hair loss, nor does excess sebum clog the hair follicles.

Brushing And Combing The Hair:
Never comb or brush wet hair, as it is more susceptible to stretching and breaking when wet finger comb it in gentle massage-like movements. Wait until it is damp before styling.

A two minute brushing, stoking and combing routine is sufficient massage exercise for the scalp. This will help distribute natural hair oils and improve blood circulation. More than this will over stimulate the sebaceous glands and cause oiliness. Never use force while brushing, always brush with gentle outward strokes.

HAIR OIL:
Hair oil is the only hair & scalp conditioner in the world. Contrary to the myth that hair oil does nothing but attract grime and which a lot of specialists endorse, regular oiling is a must. One should apply oil and leave it for a minimum of 4 hours and maximum of 24 hours. One should also avoid going out with hair oil on, as oil along with dust particles may dog the pores. Condition your hair by oiling it at least twice a week.

REGULAR HAIR CHECK UP:
It is a must to get a regular hair check up done as it is the body’s barometer indicating good health or the lack of it. It can be an early indicator of many diseases such as
1.	Thyroid problems
2.	Parathyroid problem
3.	Addisons disease
4.	Cushing’s syndrome
5.	Anemia
6.	Dietary and mineral deficiency
7.	Hormonal imbalance
8.	Ovarian cyst disease
9.	Tooth problems

1.	If you’ve been contemplating a shorter cut, now is the time to get it. You’ll have eight months for your hair to grow back and to sport a new style.

2.	Personalized fuss-free graduated and disconnected bobs are the trends this season. You can have the fringe rebounded/relaxed, or even the crown portion to ensure a sleek look.

3.	It is very important to wash your hair regularly. Firstly because the sebaceous glands tend to work overtime, making your scalp and hair oily. Secondly because all the muck that flies around, gets embedded in your hair.

4.	Condition each time you shampoo to avoid split ends and weakening of the hair shaft.

5.	Use a hair serum to protect your hair, if you use the hair dryer frequently, use a heat-protecting one. If you have oily hair and the serum tends to make it limp, avoid using one.
6.	Lice and dandruff are common problems in the monsoons, as is product buildup due to frequent shampooing and conditioning. Use a medicated shampoo once a week to combat lice and dandruff and a clarifying shampoo to clean out buildup.

7.	Blasts dry your hair thoroughly after every wash. Run the hair dryer all over the crown, flipping your hair in all directions so that the scalp is exposed. Don’t hold the dryer too closer to the scalp.

8.	If you have rebonded your hair, don’t tie your hair up too tightly. Use a cloth scrunchie instead of regular rubber bands and clips.

9.	Don’t tie up your hair in a bun if you have long hair. This will keep them damp for longer and invite bacterial infections.

10.	Ponytails and plaits are the best hairstyles for the monsoons. Experiment with pins, clips etc.

11.	To stop your hair from smelling, add some Eau de cologne to your bath water. Don’t spray perfume directly into your hair as the alcohol will dry the hair shaft.

12.	Keep a small wide-toothed comb in you bag to comb your hair after you reach your destination. Never use anybody’s brushes.
