Dental Hygiene

Are you insecure when you speak in social gatherings, or do you struggle to make a positive impression when you smile? These are the common problems associated with people who suffer from tooth loss due to injury, disease, trauma or heredity.

Perhaps not practical or what you want to do but I would recommend that you see a hygienist regularly and for the average person that is every six months. A good hygienist will not just remove the stain from your teeth at the front but professionally clean and polish all your teeth above and below the gums. Your teeth will then feel smooth and free of tartar (calcified bacteria) and become easier to keep clean.

Why tooth is so important?
If you loose teeth many studies have shown that what you eat changes, you can not eat the same foods and your diet becomes softer and less nutritious. This means you are at an increased risk of intestinal problems such as irritable bowel and even bowel cancer.

Generally people that have sensitive teeth have started to get them gradually. It is not something that happens over night. It is a slow process that at first we do not notice when our gums decide to move away from the teeth. The process is call “receding gums”. Being that the gums blanket and guard the teeth roots then they have a very important function. Therefore when they draw away the nerves and roots are now exposed. If you eat or drink anything hot or cold or even breathe in the air, you can have intense pain. If the pain is intense and frequent then you should see your dentist as soon as possible because the nerve might be exposed.

The best way to stop sensitive teeth and to stop pain is prevention. You must look to keeping your gums and your teeth healthy. This means brushing, but brushing correctly. Do not abuse you gums by trying to brush your teeth hard. Reduce the pressure you use especially when near the gum line. If you currently have sensitive teeth, you should attempt using a gentler hand when brushing or use an electric toothbrush or water pick. These will all be gentler on your teeth and gums.
